As members of a double minority (Hungarian and Roma), local children face double discrimination outside their community. At school, because of their native language - whether Romani or Hungarian - they often encounter difficulties in understanding the subject matter.

Three rivers, three languages

As a result of the transformations after socialism, Gemer, originally one of the richest regions of Slovakia, did not have time to adapt to the free market and undergo a successful economic transformation. Mass displacement, industrial decline, and unemployment followed. The population of the region, mostly Hungarian Roma, has to resort to alternative forms of economic activities and livelihood.
