The camp was established at the end of September this year. The situation made it necessary. On one hand, the number of refugees from Syria and Iraq, who were mostly heading to Germany via Hungary and our territory, increased, and on the other hand, the Czechs introduced controls on the Slovak-Czech border at the end of September. This caused more and more people from the Middle East to appear in the border areas.

Vladimír Krčméry: Sane people help by example

On the evening of Tuesday, December 20, 2022, the leading Slovak epidemiologist and infectologist, Vladimír Krčméry, died. He was 62 years old. He had bilateral pneumonia. Just a few days before his death, he was still helping those who needed it the most. The report is from the refugee camp in Kúty, where he kept going despite his health problems.
